WELCOME TO THE GUIDANCE OFFICE

Welcome to the official Greenville High School online Guidance Department.  We hope that parents, students, faculty, and community members will be able to find information and resources useful to them regarding many issues related to high school students and their education.

School guidance and counseling services at Greenville High School are designed to address and meet the needs of all students through a developmental guidance curriculum, responsive services, individual student planning, and activities designed to support the school system.  To see how the GHS Guidance Department matches with the American School Counselor Association visit the National Standards for School Counseling Program.

Because success at school can be improved in many ways we offer information and resources helpful to students and parents in several areas known to impact students, their future goals, and their opportunities for success. The Lois Macaluso Foundation Scholarship-Due May 1st, 2023 APPLY ONLINE VIA LINK: https://hunt.iphiview.com/hunt

 

The purpose of the Lois Macaluso Foundation Scholarship is to provide educational opportunities to students pursuing an education in Healthcare (i.e. nursing, physical therapists, recreational therapists, occupational therapists, physician assistants, doctors and dentists. 

 

Students will be selected by the Lois Macaluso Foundation Scholarship Advisory Committee. 

 

Students will be considered on the basis of character, need, scholastic ability and demonstrated interest  in health care professions. 

 

Scholarship Requirements:

 

Student must be a resident of Mercer or Lawrence County, Pennsylvania and be pursuing a degree in the healthcare field.

SLOVENIAN ATHLETIC CLUB SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS ARE AVAILABILE IN THE GUIDANCE OFFICE DEADLINE JUNE 1, 2023

 The Raymond Gordon Memorial Scholarship Due May 24, 2023. Applicants can apply online or pick up applications in the guidance office.To be eligible to receive this scholarship applicants must:(1) Have been adopted or in foster care and are residing in Western Pennsylvania. Alternate forms of permanency are also accepted (for example, long term foster care, kinship, legal Custodial/guardianship, independent living); ~and~(2) Be a graduating high school senior who has been accepted to an institution for higher education or who is currently enrolled in a post high school educational program ~and~(3) Have a minimum GPA of 2.0 Apply here: http://tracpgh.com/scholarship-application/

Dan Fry Memorial Scholarship available for any senior male football player or track participant. Applications are due April 14, 2023Pick up applications in the guidance office.

 

Greenville Education Association Scholarship – Available now in the Guidance Office : Due no later than April 4th, 2023 to Mrs. Gehly. The Greenville Education Association (GEA) has established a scholarship fund for the purpose of helping graduating seniors of GHS who wish to further their education. The scholarship shall be granted to deserving seniors for any educational advancement four-year or two-year accredited college/university or any acceptable education program at a technical or trade school. In order to apply for this scholarship, you MUST do the following 5 things: 

1.       Fill out a two-page application

2.       Write a 500-word essay that contains the following….

a.       Your educational goals

b.       Reasons for financial need

c.       Why you feel you should be awarded this scholarship

3.       Obtain a copy of your transcript from the Guidance Office

4.       Compile a record of your extracurricular activities (sports, clubs, etc)

COLLEGE VISITS 2022/2023 SIGN UP IN THE GUIDANCE OFFICE 

Scholarship Oppportunities:

DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest 

DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest – Deadline to Guidance Office is October 6th. The DAR Good Citizens program and scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to ALL senior class students (both young men and women) enrolled in an accredited public or private secondary schools that are in good standing with their State Boards of Education. One only student per year may be honored as a school’s DAR Good Citizen. The winner will receive $50 at the chapter level; The essay winner will receive $100. If selected you could move onto State and National levels with additional awards. Applications are available in the Guidance Office and are due on October 6th.

Gladys & Evelyn Rickert Memorial Scholarship Fund-Deadline January 30th 

This is for graduating seniors with a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.50-3.50. This scholarship is a continuing scholarship for up to 4 years of college. An official high school transcript will be attached to the application when it is turned into the Guidance Office. Applications are available in the Guidance Office and are due on January 30th.

George W. Wright Student’s Aid Fund: This is a no interest loan that will have to be paid back. Apply late spring of graduation year after you have been accepted into the school you will attend Only Mercer County residents qualify for this fund. If you are continuing your education and need assistance in paying for school this fund is available for you. Stop in the Guidance Office to pick up information regarding this student aid fund.

The Elks National Foundation: Apply online Due November 14th 2022

Since 1931, the Elks National Foundation has helped students recognize their academic dreams. Each year, we award more than $3 million in college scholarships to at least 800 outstanding, service-minded high school seniors. These scholarships range from smaller, one-time local awards distributed by individual lodges such as ours, to larger, 4-year scholarships at the national level.  Every student that applies has the opportunity to win any of these awards based on the judging criteria set forth by our national organization. Eligibility: Current high school seniors, or the equivalent, who are citizens of the United States are eligible to apply, Applicants do not need to be related to a member of the Elks. High school graduates are not eligible to apply. Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are submitted; permanent legal resident status does not qualify.

The David E. Baughman Scholarship-For Students planning to attend at Thiel College. PRIORITY DEADLINE: January 3, 2023. Applications on www.thiel.edu and available in the Guidance Office.

AMERICAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIPS: 2022 High School Oratorical Scholarship Program (Due December 4, 2022) and 2022 Pennsylvania American Legion 87th Annual Essay Contest (Due January 9, 2023). Forms available in the Guidance office or online at www.pa-legion.com

Greenville Lions Club – School and Community Service Award- The Greenville Lions Club recognizes the importance of school and community service. To that end, the Lions Club will select two deserving high school seniors to receive a $1,000.00 award, one from Greenville High School and one from Reynolds High School. The winners will be announced at their school’s awards assembly prior to commencement. The $1,000.00 awards will be given to the winners at the awards assembly. The two recipients will be selected by the Greenville Lions Club Service Award Committee. All applications must be received by March 15th of the current year.

BUHL REGIONAL HEALTH FOUNDATION: Scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria: 1-Reside in the Buhl Regional Health Foundation’s service area 2-Be pursuing an RN bachelor’s degree or higher in a health-related field 3-Be enrolled as a full-time college student for the 2022-2023 school year. Pick up a form in the Guidance office or visit: buhlregionalhealthfoundation.org/scholarships. DEADLINE: February 28, 2023.

CRYSTAL LAKE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Applicants must be US Citizens, be receiving a high school diploma or GED, Must enroll in a Technical School, Trade School or Eligible Four year College or University and must live in one of the following counties: Mahoning, Columbiana, Trumbull, Lawrence, Mercer or Beaver. Pick up applications in the Guidance office when available.

MERCER COUNTY FRONTIERS CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS Due January 30th 2023 Applicants must be Afro-American, live in Mercer County or Brookfield County. Consideration will be given to GPA, Volunteer Service and Character. Pick up an application in the Guidance Office.

DEAD POSSUMS RIDING CLUB: Deadline April 1, 2023 Mercer County Patriot’s Scholarship Applicant Criteria: Any graduating senior attending school and residing in Mercer county who is the child/sibling, niece/nephew or grandchild (step family included) of an active military member of honorably discharged veteran is eligible to apply. Must be attending an accredited post-secondary institution (trade school, junior college or college/university) to be eligible. Application will be available in the Guidance office or can be downloaded directly from www.deadpossumridingclub.org

COMMUNITY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS: The application window runs January 1, 2023 through March 1, 2023. Deadline for submission is 11:59 p.m. on February 28, 2023. All students must apply online at www.comm-foundation.org

AVAILABLE FOR JUNIORS GRADUATING IN 2024! HORATIO ALGER SCHOLARSHIP: Eligibility Criteria: Be enrolled as a full-time JUNIOR who will graduate in 2023, Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue a bachelors degree in the United States, demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income), Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities, display integrity in overcoming adversity, maintain 2.0 GPA and be a US Citizen. THE FOUNDATION FOR ENCHANCING COMMUNITIES-PA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES SCHOLARSHIP: Eligibility Criteria: Graduating HS Senior, Legal resident of PA, Attendance at a PA College, University of Career related school, Academic Achievement (minimum of 3.0 CUM High School G.P.A., Commitment to community and demonstrated leadership qualities, Extracurricular activities and financial need. PHN CHARITABLE FOUNDATION : Eligibility: Must live in a county that PHN serves, 3.0 GPA or higher, Must be pursuing a healthcare career, Must submit an essay containing a minimum of 600 words. Application available in the Guidance Office now or visit phnfoundation.net Deadline: March 31, 2023

SARA A WINLAND ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Our Mission: Motivate Women to achieve their highest aspirations. Applications available in the Guidance Office when available.

THE WKBN 27 Caring Community-Tom Holden Memorial Scholarship Contest 2023. $1,500 scholarship will be awarded. Applications available on www.WKBN.com or www.RepWentling.com Information also available in the Guidance Office. Deadline is March 3, 2023.

Northwestern Pennsylvania Area Labor Federation: Brochures of scholarships are available in the Guidance Office.

2023 Greenville Symphony Orchestra Award Scholarship-Must be a 2023 Senior, involved in music and planning to pursue their studies and education in the field of music. Applications will be available in the Guidance Office.

Shirley Stuttler Scholarship- Criteria: Applicant of good personal character who demonstrates satisfactory academic achievement and is looking to pursue a career in civil engineering, transportation/highway, trade school or related fields. Other criteria included on the ASHE website. Applications are available from the Franklin Section Officers and the ASHE Franklin Section website: www.franklin.ashe.pro Applications online and the Guidance Office. Deadline is April 8th.

Ross Paulenich Memorial Conservation Scholarship-Deadline January 31, 2023- The applicant must be a senior at a Mercer County High School. The applicant must have significant involvement in school and community activities. Involvement in local conservation is preferred. Applications available in the Guidance office.

 

Shenango Valley Chapter of Credit Unions-2023 Continuing Education Award ($500)-Deadline: April 14, 2023 Applicants must be a member of their credit union prior to submitting an application. Members must be between the ages of 17-24, pursuing post high school studies at a college, university of vocational trade school. Applications are available in the guidance office.

Mercer County Community Federal Credit Union Continuing Education Award ($1000)-Deadline: March 17, 2023. Awards are open to any 2023 high school senior pursuing an academic, professional or vocational post-high school education at a college, university or accredited trade school. Each applicant is eligible for one $1000 award during high school.
