After earning my MS in Biology in 2007 I was awarded an RET (Research Experience for Teachers) from NSF (National Science Foundation). I went to work in the lab of Dr. Rick Relyea in the summer 0f 2008 acting as a researcher for the University of Pittsburgh. My research focussed on two main avenues of study. My first course of study was in the area of sexual selection of amphipods. This work resulted in two publications in peer reviewed journals. I was also asked to present my work at the ESA (Ecological Society of America) national convention in Pittsburgh. I was then asked to present my work in San Francisco at the NSTA (National Science Teachers' Association) annual convention. My other area of study was in the effects of herbicides and Pesticides on Amphibian Populations.
Recently, I have acted as an instructor at AWLS (American Wilderness Leadership School). AWLS brings over 200 educators and 40 youth to Granite Creek Wyoming every year. These educators are instructed in many areas, predominantly ecology, and wildlife conservation. They are then given the tools to return to their home schools and actively involve their students in their education.
Most importantly, I have taught Biology and AP Biology here at Greenville for the past 13 years. I have also acted as the assistant athletic director for the past 8 years.
